Handy Cleaning Tips For Pet Owners

Having a pet is one of the most rewarding things in the world, however it can be a little bit messy. Pets often get hair everywhere and they can also cause a number of other accidents around the house

If you have a pet and you need some serious advice for keeping the house clean, don’t panic! We have some handy little tips and tricks to help you keep the house clean and tidy even when you have pets.

Keep a towel by the door

Throughout the day you will need to let your dog outside so that they can do their business, and once they come back into the house they may be carrying all sorts of mud and dirt. To stop this spreading through the whole house, greet your dog at the door with a towel and give their paws a wipe. It will take seconds and it will avoid you having to look at muddy paw prints all over the house.

Lint roller

Lint rollers will become your new best friend as a pet owner. It is commonplace to end up with hair on every possible surface of the house when you have a pet, and lint rollers can be used to remove this hair within seconds. If you have a black dress or shirt that needs serious de-furring, roll the lint roller over and pick up all of the hair with no issues.

Clean collars

Now and again you need to wash your dog’s or cat’s collar. This is important for their hygiene and you should aim to wash these once a week or so to keep them clean. The easiest way to clean them is to put them in a washing machine safe bag in the machine and run through a regular cycle. If the collar is delicate, consider handwashing it instead.

Put toys in the washing machine

As well as their collar they wear, the toys they play with need a good wash every few weeks. If you dog loves stuffed toys, they likely have them hanging out of their mouth a lot of the time. To ensure that the toys stay clean and don’t begin to smell, put them in the washer.

Say goodbye to wet dog smell

The smell of wet dog is unlike anything else in the world. It’s a weird sort of musty, sweaty smell that can take over the whole house within minutes. If your dog has been stinking up the carpet, use white vinegar to spray it and get rid of the smell. It will act as a simple cleaning remedy and the smell will be gone in seconds. If there is a stain that just won’t budge, you may need a more powerful method like Masses Chem-Dry to clean it up.

Cleaning the bed

Pet beds can be difficult to clean, and that’s why you should buy one with a removable cover that can be either hand washed or washed in the machine. To keep the beds super clean and smell free, add a scoop of baking soda to the washing machine along with your detergent and it will do wonders.
