Create a “Me Space” in Your Home
Are there times when you feel like you’ve lost touch with who you are? Do your days become so crowded with work and taking care of the kids and house that you find no energy left to use for yourself? Does it feel as though nothing is actually set aside for you because you’re always giving everything for others? I’ve been there! I spent a very long time living that life. But, I’m standing here now telling you that it doesn’t have to be that way. You can still give 110% for everyone else, and also have a little left for yourself. One great way to do this is to create a “Me Space” in your house!
What’s a “Me Space”?
I’m so glad you asked! It’s a space that is setup just for you. It can be as big as a room, or as small as a shelf on a bookcase – size doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters is that it’s full of the things you love – the things that will make you happy. Each day you can go to this space for a little bit, even if it’s only a few seconds, to recharge your batteries and smile at the things that bring you joy.
What’s your “Me Space”?
I absolutely adore my space! It’s a corner of the dining room that I’ve laid out and claimed as my area. I’ve been working on creating it for a while, but today I just had to share because the final piece, the thing that ties it all together arrived today! I’ve created a Beverage Corner!
My corner is a little stand (which I’m still debating on whether or not to paint white…) that holds a small wine fridge. Next to that you’ll find a bookself, filled with coffee and cups and all sorts of things coffee related. I’m a huge coffee fan and throughly enjoy my cup each morning. By creating this space, I have created a haven sort of nook in my home. It’s my happy place. It might not be designer worthy. It definately won’t land be pictures in a magizine, but it’s mine. It’s setup in a way that I know where things are, an I can come here each morning to brew my beverage and just relax. It’s the few moments each morning, standing in my beverage corner, brewing my coffee, where I feel as though I am me.
What’s your favorite piece of your beverage corner?
Besides the coffee that I drink from it? That would be my beautiful coffee cup canvas! I found this picture on a website called Pixers. It’s large, oversized, and draws your eye to the main focus of the area, which is exactly what I had in mind when I ordered it. The colors pop off the canvas in bright, brilliant quality – which I adore as the cup is my favorite color (if you can’t tell from all the pops of it that are throughout my house). It’s the piece that ties everything together in my corner spot, and I couldn’t be happier with it.
How do I make a “Me Space”?
The first thing is to figure out what it is that you love. Is it a certain type of food or beverage? Is there a craft or activity that you enjoy doing? Pinpoint what makes you smile. Then, decide how to incorporate that into a space in your house. Find a corner or wall that you can claim out as your own and set it up so that you can enjoy your activity there. Perhaps you’ll have a nightstand where you store yarn and needles that sits next to a chair you sit in to crochet. Or you could have a small bookcase where you keep scrapbook supplies. Decide how you’ll use and organize your space – and then comes the fun part – decorate it!
Head over to https://pixers.us/ and checkout their inventory. They have canvases, wall papers, wall murals, prints and more! The easiest way to find what you’re looking for is to use the search function. Decide what you want to display and then search for it. I searched Coffee Cup for mine, and within a few pages I found the perfect image. They have soo many images on their site that you’re bound to find something that works perfectly for you and your space! And, for being a loyal reader at SkirtGirlie.com, Pixers has provided you with a 40% off code for your first order! Just use the promo code “SKIRTGIRLIE” to enjoy your discount!
Now comes the most important step. Enjoy your space! Setting up a beautiful corner means nothing if you don’t take a few moments to enjoy it. Sit in the beauty of your Pixers print, enjoying the activity that you’ve created a space for, and smile. This is you. This is how you take time to feel like you again. Embrace it. Enjoy it. Smile.
