Delicious and Nutritious Food For Your Dog

You spend a lot of time figuring out what your family is going to everyday and making sure you all get a good balanced diet – but what about your favorite family member? What is the best balanced diet for you dog?

Dogs need all sorts of different nutrients from their food and with some foods they can even clean their teeth too. Variety is important because, just like us, dogs get bored with the same things over and again – even when those foods are perfectly balanced! Try giving him a range of foods including wet food, dry food, bones and other treats too.

Wet Food vs Dry Food

You can get all sorts of different types of wet food that is nutritionally balanced for your dog according to size, age and breed. Wet food is a particularly good choice for dogs who don’t drink enough or who struggle to chew. Wet food can be incorporated into any dog’s healthy diet.

Dry food is much easier to store and most dogs approach all that chewing with great enthusiasm. Check the label for the nutrient content, but don’t worry if you see things like rice being added to the mix as this can also beneficial for your dog. Don’t be tempted to put lots of food down at once as this may lead to overeating. Instead give your dog a couple of meals a day.

Rawhide Bones

These bones may not provide any nutrition, but they do come in all sorts of sizes, shapes and flavors for your dog’s delight! Chewing is an instinctive behavior in dogs and a rawhide bone is perfect for cleaning their teeth. An added advantage is that the bone will discourage overeating and they will hopefully be less interested in chewing up your shoes too!

Treats

When you are training your dog, he will definitely be expecting a treat for his good behavior. In fact, most dogs want a treat every now and then! Finding a healthy way to treat your pet can be tough but there are a few products on the market that really fit the bill. If you’re feeling creative, you could make your own dogs treats but Betsy Farms in particular have a great range of healthy treats any dog will love.

Fresh Water

Dogs need plenty of water to stay healthy and happy. Ideally, this should be around 0.6 to 1 ounce of water per pound of body weight. They should have a source of water they can drink whenever they want to. You may wish to use tap water, or if your pet is ill, cooled boiled water is ideal. Make sure your dog doesn’t drink from any water sources that may be contaminated such as lakes, rivers, pools or the toilet.

With a balanced diet, your dog will be healthy and happy, just like you! Remember though, it’s not just about what he eats, he also needs regular walks, lots of play and plenty of lots of love.
