How To Keep Your Home Safe When You Go On Holiday
Holidays are something that everyone looks forward to. A chance to spend quality time with your children and take some time out from the daily grind to relax. To make sure that your holiday is relaxing and that you can spend it worry-free, you need to make sure that you take steps to ensure that your home is safe while you are away. There are many things that people do day-to-day to ensure that their home is safeguarded from burglary, but here are a few things that you can do to ensure it stays safe while you are away:
Lock all your window and doors
This may seem like a logical thing to do, but sometimes it is something that you can forget to check. Before you leave your home to set off on your holiday, you need to take the time to go round the house and make sure that every window and door is locked. If you don’t do this, you might come back to find that you accidentally left one of your windows on the latch. It will also give you peace of mind when you are away because you won’t be wondering if you remembered to lock all the windows, you will know that you checked them all before you left.
Don’t post on social media
Social media is part of our everyday life, but it could be something that puts your home at risk of burglary. When you post on social media that you are on holiday, you are letting everyone that you are friends with, or who follows you, know that your house is unattended. This is particularly important if your social media is open to the public as anyone will be able to find out that you aren’t home. You can still post all about your fantastic holiday; it just could be better if you wait until you get back.
Have someone you trust visit
If there is a friend, family member or neighbour who you can trust to go and check on your house while you are away, ask them. If they live nearby, you could ask them to open the curtains in the morning and close them and put on a light in the evening. If they don’t, they could just check on your house once or twice while you are away so that you know everything is okay.
Invest in an alarm system
A home security system is an excellent investment for any home. It is great for when you are on holiday, but it is even a great investment for everyday use. Alarm systems can sound an alarm when somebody enters your home without permission. This means that the authorities can be informed. It also acts as a deterrent because criminals are less likely to break into a house they know is monitored, and may run away if an alarm goes off. There are even some home security systems that are monitored by emergency responders and others that send alerts to your phone.
