How You Can Make Moving Fun for Your Kids

Moving can be scary for kids as they may not know what to expect and they may be worried about the new place. If you have children who are old enough to help you move, then why not get them involved?

Of course, your children probably do not want to help you with the move, but there are ways that you can make it fun for them to be movers. Below, we will talk about some of those ways so that your children will want to be involved.

  1. Make moving sound like it is exciting.

Okay, we all know that moving is not necessarily exciting, but you can talk about it in a positive light and emphasis how much fun it could be. You can highlight areas and parts of the move that will be fun and get your child excited about it.

You can encourage your child to get involved by letting them create their own to do list of what they need to do before and during the move. This will allow them to feel needed and give them some responsibility too.

  1. Plan for something fun the day you move.

You should give your child something to look forward to and to do this, you should plan something fun for the day you move. This can be something that you do the moment the move is over or the very next day.

Take time to explore the area around your new home, visit the local Farmer’s market, or head to one of the hot spots in your new town. Your children are sure to love it and have a good time.

  1. Getting help packing isn’t always as easy as it seems.

Getting your child to help you pack for your move is not always easy and your child may look at the packing process as boring. To help make it fun, turn it into a game. For example, you could have everyone come up with a song to sing while they pack and the person with the funniest or catchiest song wins and earns a prize.

Small incentives like this will keep moving fun for your child and keep them involved and engaged the entire time too. Another great way to get your child to help is to have a box of surprises or prizes that they can choose from along the way.   For more tips on packing, see CompleteRemovals.

  1. Camp out indoors on the night of the move.

You can make moving fun by camping indoors either the night before the move or the night you make the move.  Let the kids choose the room you camp in, be it the living room, play room or office – wherever they desire! The kids will love this experience and you can even have a contest and the winner can pick which takeout restaurant to deliver dinner!

There Are Many Ways to Make Moving Fun

There are tons of ways that you can make your upcoming move fun for your children. You want to involve them as much as possible and a little motivation such as games and prizes may be needed, but it will be worth it in the end.
