Money Making Side Gigs for Stay At Home Moms
I was a stay at home mother for over a decade. If there is a side gig that could be done, I’m sure I tried it at some point in time, if not multiple points in time. This contributed post has some wonderful ideas for ways that moms can bring in a little extra side money while still remaining at home with her children.
Choosing to be a stay-at-home-mom is one that many women make, and each woman has her own reasons for doing so. Some women choose to stay at home because it would not be financially worth their while to return to work due to things like child care costs, others want to take time out to reassess their lives, while most also want to spend those first few years caring for and aiding their children’s development.
This is all great, but the one major downside of being a stay-at-home -mom that is often difficult to avoid, is a loss of income and independence. The good news is, modern moms don’t have to choose between working or caring for the kids, there are lots of great money-making side-gigs that they can get into as and when convenient.
Sound good? Here are some of the best side-gig ideas for busy moms:
If you’re a crafty mom and you are able to produce goods to a high standard, why not set up your own profile on Etsy and start selling your stuff? The act of crafting will keep you busy and creative so that you don’t feel like you’re doing nothing but run around after the kids and you’ll be able to work around the kids to generate an income on your own terms.
Starting your own blog is a great hobby for a stay-at-home-mom because it allows you to vent your issues and show off your kids while indulging in a creative pursuit. Luckily, it can also be a great way to make money if you start advertising, reviewing and selling on there too.
Selling bonsai trees, orchids or other high-value plants and flowers, if you’re the green-fingered sort, can be quite a lucrative side-business. You’ll probably need to invest in a decent outbuilding, like the ones you can get at armstrong steel, and you’ll have to start with wholesale plants at first, but there are few things more fulfilling than growing plants and making your money out of passing on the beautiful living thing you’ve created to someone else who will appreciate it just as much.
Childminding (aka Baby-Sitting)
It makes sense, as a stay-at-home-mom who wants to make some money, to start looking after other people’s children too. After all, as a mom, you already have the skills required, and your children will no doubt be glad of the company of other kids to play with. Depending on where you live, you’ll probably need to complete a qualification or fill out some paperwork first, but as long as you have a safe place for them to stay, looking after other people’s kids is pretty simple.
There are a lot of people out there who worry about their dogs while they’re out at work and who are willing to pay for their pooch to get some attention during these hours. If you love dogs, you like to walk, and you’re willing to do a little promotion, you could, therefore, make a decent side-income walking dogs.
