Prepping Your Bedroom for Summer

Summer may feel like it is far, far away, but it will be here before you know it, and you need to make sure that you are prepared. While we often prioritise prepping our garden for the summer, your bedroom is also a space that needs some attention too. After all, there is nothing worse than struggling to get to sleep in the summer months because you feel all restless and hot, is there? So, let’s take a look at the different steps to take to get your bedroom ready for summer.

Get the paintbrush out

It is important to keep things light and cool during the summer. If you have a lot of dark or bright shades in your bedroom, it may be very hard to get comfortable during the summer. You need to opt for a light and neutral color palette. This does not mean you need to paint your bedroom a boring shade; there are plenty of gorgeous pastel colors to choose from.

Buy a summer duvet

You are never going to get comfortable if you are trying to snuggle up in your winter duvet. You need to replace your current duvet and choose a lower tog duvet instead. It is best to look for duvets that range from 4.5 to 6 tog. If you have an all seasons duvet, all you need to do is remove the 9-tog duvet and you will be left with a 4.5 tog.

Let there be light

You need to let as much natural light into your bedroom as possible. This does not mean that you need to start banging down your walls. You can generate more light by investing in a large bedroom mirror or by bringing some reflective surfaces into your room. This is a great way to lighten the room and to make it feel a lot bigger too.

Get your air conditioning unit serviced

It is vital to organize an air conditioning service before the summer months. The last thing you want is for your unit to break during the summer. Getting it serviced will ensure that it is in full working order and that any potential issues are picked up on early.

Invest in some blackout shades

A lot of people often struggle to sleep during the summer months because of the longer days and the bright light that comes through their window in the morning. The best thing to do is buy some blackout shades so you can have a restful night’s sleep.

Ditch the heavy carpeting

If you have a heavy rug in your bedroom, roll it up and put it away for summer. You can always replace it with a lighter or brighter color accent rug.

Hopefully, you now feel more prepared for the summer months ahead. If you follow the steps mentioned above, you can ensure your bedroom is comfortable and relaxing during the warmer parts of the year.
