How To Rediscover Yourself as a New Mother

As a new mother, you may find that you are constantly looking after your new bundle of joy. There is a high chance that this will take up most of your time, so that brings about the question, how do you make time for yourself and how do you know when it is the right time for you to rediscover yourself as a new mother?

 

 

Know that You’re Not Superwoman

Even though you may feel like it at times, it’s important to know that you are not superwoman and you never will be. This isn’t saying that you don’t do incredible things, but it does mean that eventually, you will burn out if you don’t take a break every now and again. You need to know that it isn’t possible for you to fit every chore around the home into one day. Think about it, your children will grow up to be whoever you want them to be, and they will also take after you quite a lot as well. Do you want them to be a frazzled heap collapsed on the floor in a pool of self-doubt? Probably not, so when things are getting too much, have some you-time and know that you deserve it.

 

Treat Yourself from Time to Time

Sometimes you may feel as though you don’t even have the time to think about treating yourself, let alone doing it. One thing that you can do here is prioritise the things that you need to do. Of course, there is probably a huge list, but do you really need to get the washing done today? Do you have to run those errands? Probably not, the world won’t end if you delay it by one day, so relax, treat yourself, go for a coffee, spend some time with loved ones and give yourself the attention you deserve.

 

Don’t Judge Yourself

When you are a new mother, you may not feel entirely confident with your body. You may feel as though you’re sagging in places you have never sagged before, and you may not think that you look sexy when walking out onto the street. Remember that just because you are a new mother, that doesn’t mean you can’t do things you’ve always wanted to do. Why not consider

breast augmentation? Or even going out to the salon and getting an expensive haircut. You can even go and get your nails done, but don’t feel guilty about it. You deserve it and you should never judge yourself for taking the time out to look after yourself.

 

Meet Old Friends

You may find that all of your friends are now mothers and that you have met them all in playgroup. The problem is that you need to spend some time away with some of your old friends as well, the people who you knew before you were a mother. This is a great way for you to try and rediscover who you are as a person and it is also a great way for you to take some of the tension off yourself when it comes to your motherly duties as well. Remember that you are always worth the time you give yourself and that there is nothing wrong with being out of the house for a couple of hours.
