Tips For Making Side Money By Blogging

Money doesn’t grow on trees, even though my children seem to think that it should.  It’s one of those things that there just never seems to be enough of in the world. Even with working a full time job and winning online games, it can be difficult to keep enough money coming in to cover all the bills and leave enough behind where you can enjoy your life a little bit.  That’s why I have a side hustle – this blog!

There are lots of different things that you can do to make money from home, from selling crafts on Etsy to hosting your own blog.  I chose blogging because it struck a chord within me, giving me the opportunity to write as well as helping other people.  When I started, I thought it would be simple – write articles and make money.  I didn’t fully understand the amount of work that is needed for a successful blog.  What all do you need to do?  Let me share with you a few helpful hints I’ve picked up along the way.

Find Your Voice

It’s very tempting to try to write about anything and everything that pops into your mind, but that won’t help you resonate with a group of readers and have them want to come back for more.  You’ll want to narrow down your niche and stick with one general theme so that you don’t face customer churn because you aren’t being focused in your writing style.

Find Your Tribe

While writing a blog in and of itself is something that you can do alone, I highly recommend not going that route.  Find a tribe, a group of like minded friends, who will help support you along your journey.  These can be as simple as your best friend who you give status updates to and will help keep you accountable for the goals that you set, or a Facebook group of people that you only know online.  I personally suggest the latter.  By having an online support group of people you only know through blogging, you’re less likely to have the “I don’t want to hurt my friends’ feelings” problem and be able to get focused, honest support and accountability.  There are a million groups out there on Facebook, so you’ll be able to find one that works for you if you just search.

Find Your Products

Writing your posts in and of themselves isn’t going to bring in any money.  You’ll need to discover which path you want to take for that.  You could become an affiliate – advertising a product in order to receive a percentage of the sale as a commission.  Amazon has a great affiliate program where you can sell anything from their site and earn money for it!  Selling ad space on your blog is another option.  This could be done directly through a company or through a program such as Adsense.  Another option would be to create your own product.  This could be something physical that you mail, a digital download or even a webinar or online class.  And the best news is, you don’t have to choose just one.  You can create a class while selling adspace and being an affiliate for other products!

Blogging can be a fun way to bring in some extra money when you’re struggling financially , but it’s also a lot of work.  It’s a highly rewarding work though, and I absolutely love it!
