Why Is Spring Cleaning Important?

Although it might feel as though it lasts forever, winter will be over at some point, and when it does, you might feel as though it’s time to give your home a thorough spring clean. After all, a spring clean is meant to be done once the darker months are behind you, when you can see the cobwebs and dust that little bit better, and when you want everything to be shiny and new feeling to match the season. Even if you don’t usually feel any kind of urge to do household chores, the annual spring clean is something a little different. Yet apart from just having a feeling that it would be nice to have a dust-free home, why else is spring cleaning important?

It Makes You Productive

It is often hard to get started with a large job such as spring cleaning, but once you do, you will find you are very productive and are often able to get a lot more done than you thought you would. This can be achieved by breaking up the overall task into smaller ones, perhaps thinking about cleaning a room at a time, or working in one-hour bursts of activity.

When you are done, you will feel incredibly accomplished, and it could lead you to do other jobs you have been putting off. If you’re dusting lampshades, you can change the lightbulb that blew that you haven’t replaced yet. If you’re cleaning a kitchen cupboard, you could screw the door back on more securely if it is hanging loose. There are dozens of little jobs that you can do as you clean, leaving you with a gorgeous home at the end.

Remove Clutter

If you’re like most people, you’ll have a lot of clutter in your home. When you tackle the spring cleaning, it doesn’t make any sense to simply dust and vacuum around lots of things you no longer want or need. Therefore, why not take the opportunity to declutter your home? You can do this by making three piles of items: pile one to be thrown out, pile two to be kept, and pile three to be given away or sold, depending on what you want to do.

The first and third piles are relatively easy, but the second pile can be problematic. You might want to keep a lot of items, but you don’t have room for them in your home, or they don’t match the aesthetic. Rather than having to throw them out or keep them despite the fact they just don’t work in your home, there is another solution; you can use a storage service to keep them safe and out of your way. That way, if you want them at a later date, you know exactly where they are.

Good For Your Health

Practically speaking, having a good spring clean when the weather starts to get better is good for your health. Firstly, there will be less dust around, so if you suffer from allergies or have breathing problems, this will help. Secondly, if you do choose to declutter as well as clean, there will be fewer items to trip over or potentially have fall on you in the worst cases.

Finally, a clean home is good for your mental health. If everything is messy, you may well feel very stressed, perhaps even depressed, even if you hadn’t noticed that’s how you are feeling. Clean your house, and your mood will quickly improve.
